Yulia Chaplina - Piano

Described by International Piano Magazine as having the ‘technical fluency and rich tonal shading reminiscent of the great Communist era artists such as Emil Gilels’ and held by Paul Badura-Skoda in ‘highest regard as a concert pianist’, Yulia is the winner of 7 international piano competitions. Since winning the First Prize & the Gold Medal in the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians, she has performed regularly as a soloist in many of the world's finest venues, including the Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre in London, Berlin’s Philharmonie, the Grand Halls of the Moscow Conservatoire and the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo and many other concert halls.

Yulia’s solo CD of Russian Music, recorded by Champs Hill Records, was described by the American Record Guide as "....an outstanding disc and one I’ll return to often", adding that "Chaplina brings to her playing more than a lifetime of acquaintance with this music." 

Her leadership extends to educational roles, serving as a Board Member for EPTA GB and providing masterclasses at various institutions such as MozarteumUniversity in Austria, University of the Arts Berlin and Münster Conservatoire in Germany , Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Scottish Conservatoire and Trinity-Laban Conservatoire in the UK, Tokyo University of Arts and Tokyo College of Music in Japan, Rostov Rachmaninov Conservatoire in Russia and Sichuan Conservatory in China.

Yulia's contributions to music literature include regular articles for esteemed publications and online interviews with renowned piano educators and concert pianists. Yulia has written for Pianist Magazine, EPTA Piano Professional and EPTA Piano Journal Magazines, International Piano Magazine, Gramophone, BBC Classical Music, Musical Opinion, Russian Arts & Culture (including interviews with Sir Andras Schiff, Peter Donohoe, Stephen Hough, Steven Isserlis, Imogen Cooper).

During Covid Pandemic Yulia created ‘The Pianist Platform’ where she held 35+ online interviews with famous piano educators and concert pianists on various topics (Psychology of piano playing and practicing, Piano pedagogy and methodology, Repertoire, etc). Also for the ‘Pianist Platform’ Yulia created ‘Discovering Beethoven Series’ for Beethoven's 250th birthday which featured online interviews with Alfred Brendel, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Barry Cooper, David Watermann and many others.

Yulia holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Arts (Berlin), Masters in Music & Fellowship from the RCM (London). Yulia received music coaching from Mstislav Rostropovitch, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Paul Badura-Skoda, David Waterman, Steven Isserlis, Thomas Adès and Liliya Zilberstein.
